Cancer after Hysterectomy – Uterine Leiomyosarcoma
The Department of Health and Human Services reports that there are over 600,000 hysterectomies every year and that 1/3 of women in in the US will have a hysterectomy by the time they turn 60.
The FDA recently issued a warning discouraging the use of a laparoscopic power morcellation devices in gynecological surgeries including hysterectomies because of a link between the use of the device and the increased risk of spreading undetected or un-diagnosed cancerous cells throughout the abdominal and pelvic regions.
