Liability In Indio Car Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are hospitalized every year in car accidents. According to the NHTSA, “Unfortunately, pedestrian injuries and fatalities remain high. In 2020, 6,516 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 55,000 pedestrians were injured nationwide.” Elderly people and young children are disproportionately involved in pedestrian accidents. There are many steps that cities can take in order to prevent pedestrian collisions.

  • Intersections should be well illuminated.
  • Cities can install pedestrian islands.
  • Traffic violations likely to lead to pedestrian collisions should be heavily enforced.

Every driver has a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid hitting pedestrians. Drivers are supposed to yield the right of way to pedestrians before turning at an intersection. Any person that is injured in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
