Quang Khuu Killed In Alhambra Car Accident By Marengo Avenue and Valley Boulevard

ALHAMBRA, CALIFORNIA (November 15, 2022) – A pedestrian identified as Quang Khuu was killed in an Alhambra car accident with a van by Marengo Avenue and Valley Boulevard.

Los Angeles County officials are saying that the accident took place around 7:50 a.m. on Friday. Quang Khuu was walking when he was hit by a van.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures, Quang Khuu was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash.

Liability For Alhambra Car Accidents

Los Angeles county has one of the highest instances of pedestrian collisions in California. According to the LAist, “In 2019, 134 people were killed by drivers while walking in Los Angeles. That’s about one death every two-and-a-half days. In fact, pedestrian deaths increased from 87 in 2014 — or nearly 55% over 5 years. Hundreds more pedestrians are injured by drivers each year.” There are a number of steps that drivers should take in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.

  • Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
  • Drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them.

All drivers have a legal responsibility to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 21950, the driver of any vehicle shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian crossing within any marked or unmarked crosswalk. A driver approaching a pedestrian shall reduce the speed of their vehicle and take any other action necessary to safeguard the wellbeing of the pedestrian.

If the driver of a van was working at the time of a collision, the company that they were working for could be held at fault. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. For example, vans are often used to transport people for medical appointments or other reasons. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any pedestrian collision.

  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • A thorough, independent investigation should be conducted.

The family of any pedestrian that is killed in a collision may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the expenses that can come with the sudden loss of a loved one. It is crucial that evidence is properly preserved after any collision. Regardless of what any person says, the physical evidence left after a collision can paint a clear picture of what happened.
