One Person Killed In Bakersfield Car Accident on Coffee Road

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA (January 2, 2022) – One person was killed in a Bakersfield car accident involving a gardening truck during foggy conditions on Coffee Road.

Bakersfield police officials are saying that the accident took place around 6:45 a.m. on Monday. A gardening truck was pulled over so that a tire could be changed.

That gardening truck was then hit by an SUV. One person in the gardening truck died and another person sustained moderate injuries.

Police believe that speed in the foggy conditions may have contributed to the crash. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Bakersfield Car Accidents

Inclement weather is a major contributing factor in car accidents. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, “Low visibility conditions cause increased speed variance, which increases crash risk. Each year, over 38,700 vehicle crashes occur in fog. Over 600 people are killed and more than 16,300 people are injured in these crashes annually.” Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 22350, no person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed greater than would be reasonable or safe given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. Driving the speed limit during periods of heavy fog can be very dangerous. The family of any person that is killed due to the negligence of another driver may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim.
