Truck Driver Killed in 3-Vehicle Woodstock Crash
A section of Route 176 in unincorporated Woodstock was closed for more than 8 hours Wednesday following a fatal crash involving three vehicles.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s office, the accident occurred at 6:52 a.m. on Route 176 at Franklinville Road.
McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski has identified the deceased truck driver as 55-year-old Barry G. Serio, of Crystal Lake. He had been driving a 1999 Peterbilt semi dump truck westbound on Route 176 when a 2013 Dodge Dart was pushed onto the road in front of him after it was rear-ended by a 2008 Pontiac Vibe.
Police said that the Pontiac had been traveling east on Route 176 when it rear-ended the Dodge that was stopped waiting to turn north onto Franklinville.
The Peterbilt semi struck the Dodge before overturning, spilling its load and skidding over the westbound lane, hitting several trees and landing on the side of the road.
Serio was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Coroner, an autopsy revealed that Serio died from blunt force injuries to the head.
The driver of the Dodge, a 29-year-old woman from Marengo, and the driver of the Pontiac, a 28-year-old man from Woodstock were each sole occupants of their vehicles. Both had been wearing seat belts and both airbags deployed. They were each taken to local hospitals and were soon released according to the sheriff’s office.
