Lightning Storm Sparks Fires Across Northern California
A lightning storm that occurred during the weekend displaced a group of more than 30 residents in Redding. As the storm progressed, wildfires began to ignite across Northern California. The naturally-caused incident threatened 100 structures when the fire began to spread through Shasta County, requiring in excess of 600 firefighters to battle the flames. According to reports, the Shasta County fires were merely one site among the many affected by the lightning storm. Crews reportedly responded to fires in Lassen, Tuolumne, and Monterey counties as well. One especially large fire in Stanislaus National Forest extended across 4,600 acres, injuring three people over the weekend.
