Liability For Sacramento Hit-And-Run Car Accidents

California has one of the highest rates of hit-and-run collisions in the United States. According to Value Penguin, “California experienced the largest share of fatal hit-and-runs [from 2016 – 2019]. The number of Golden State crashes accounted for 17% of the U.S. total, with 2,948 crashes causing 3,056 deaths.” There are a number of steps that should be taken after any hit-and-run collision.

  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.

When a driver is negligent and hits a bicyclist, they can be held at fault through a civil claim. The family of any person that is killed in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim. Sadly, though, drivers will often fight hard to deny liability for crashes. This is why it is so important that all evidence related to a crash is preserved.
