Liability For Saratoga Car Accidents
Far too many pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “More than 7,000 pedestrians were killed on our nation’s roads in crashes involving a motor vehicle in 2020. That’s about one death every 75 minutes.” The vast majority of pedestrian accidents are preventable and due to driver error. There are a number of steps that drivers should take in order to avoid pedestrian collisions.
- Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
- Drivers should abstain from alcohol and drugs.
- Drivers should constantly scan the road ahead of them for potential hazards.
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. If a driver fails to reduce their speed and hits a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person that is killed may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the expenses that come with the sudden loss of a loved one.
