Denise Carter is TorkLaw’s Chief People Officer. In this role, she oversees TorkLaw’s human resources and culture management, including recruitment and hiring, equity and inclusion, HR policies and programs, and employee engagement. Her focus is on strengthening organizational decision-making and securing continued future growth through the development of TorkLaw’s people and company culture.
A former practicing attorney, Denise previously spearheaded operations and client relations at the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution services worldwide. In that role, she provided leadership and vision in the development of recruiting strategies, diversity initiatives, and brand awareness while managing business and people operations for over $16M in revenue.
Throughout her career, Denise has maximized business efficiencies and created sustainable growth through the promotion of people-first strategies, always remembering that without mistakes there can be no advancement.
Denise is a natural connector who believes success comes through the relationships we build in our personal and professional lives. With this in mind, she engages compassionately with the world by contributing to multiple boards and community organizations and by actively serving as a mentor and coach. Having personally benefited from the interest and goodwill of others, she pays it forward with kindness, time, and energy.
Outside of the people and pets she adores, Denise’s greatest happiness comes from travel. Every chance she gets, she indulges her love of adventure by visiting someplace she’s never been. To date, she’s explored over 30 countries. One reason for Denise’s wanderlust, besides the sheer joy of discovering a new place and culture, is her passion for unusual food. Her motto is, if someone’s eating it, it’s worth trying it. As a result, Denise counts eating termites in Belize and stinky tofu in Taiwan among her culinary experiences.
