RYOBI Recalls 764,000 Pressure Washers Sold In The U.S. Due To Risks Of Serious Injury

On August 28, 2025, RYOBI announced a nationwide recall for two of their electric pressure washer models. Approximately 764,000 sold in the United States between July 2017 – June 2024 are included in this recall. There have been at least 200 total reported injuries that were caused by explosions and overheating. Safety hazards put users and bystanders at risk of serious injury of fractures and other impact-related injuries.

  • RYOBI Electric Pressure Washer Models:
    • RY142300 (2300 PSI)
    • RY142711VNM (2700 PSI)
  • Sold at Home Depot, Direct Tools Factory Outlet, and online between July 2017 – June 2024 ($300–$400).
  • Serial numbers vary; located on data plate on motor housing.

Hazards

  • The capacitor can overheat and burst, ejecting parts.
  • Risk of serious impact injuries to users and bystanders.

Reported Injuries

  • 135 overheating reports
  • 41 explosions
  • 32 injury cases, including:
    • Fractures to fingers, hands, face, eyes
    • Other impact-related injuries
