Mother, Baby Injured In Paradise Car Accident By Skyway and Honey Run Road

PARADISE, CALIFORNIA (November 30, 2022) – A mother and her infant child were injured in a Paradise car accident with a pickup truck by Skyway and Honey Run Road.

Butte County officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:00 p.m. on Friday. A mother was pushing her 3-month-old in a stroller when they were hit by a Dodge Ram pickup truck making a left turn.

The driver of the pickup truck apparently did not see the pedestrians in the lighted crosswalk. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victims.

Liability For Paradise Pedestrian Accidents

Pedestrians are far more likely to be overlooked by drivers due to their small size. According to the IIHS, “Pedestrian deaths occur primarily in urban areas. Engineering measures that separate vehicles and pedestrians, such as sidewalks, refuge islands, overpasses and underpasses, and barriers, can reduce the problem. Increased illumination, improved signal timing at intersections, and beacons that alert drivers to stop at crosswalks when pedestrians are present also can be effective.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to a pedestrian collision including:

  • Speeding
  • Inclement weather
  • Distracted driving
  • Driver fatigue

Left turns are among the most dangerous maneuvers that drivers can make. This is why many companies like UPS eliminate as many as possible. In fact, drivers are nearly 10 times more likely to be involved in a collision during a left turn as opposed to a right turn. If a driver hits a pedestrian while they are making a left turn, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.

Depending on the facts of any case, liability for a pedestrian collision could extend beyond any driver. Pickup trucks are often used for commercial purposes. If the driver of a pickup truck was working at the time of a collision, the company that they were working for could be held at fault. Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Any person that is injured due to the negligence of another driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the expenses that can come with serious injuries. However, it is common for drivers to deny liability for any collision. A pedestrian accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
