76-Year-Old Woman Killed In Irvine Car Accident on East Yale Loop

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (November 7, 2022) – A 76-year-old woman has tragically died in an Irvine car accident involving a pickup truck on East Yale Loop.

Orange County police officials are saying that the accident took place on Saturday, November 5. A woman was walking when she was hit by a white Chevrolet Silverado heading southbound.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Irvine Truck Accidents

Pedestrians are uniquely vulnerable in car accidents. They lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are more likely to be overlooked. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “More than 7,000 pedestrians were killed on our nation’s roads in crashes involving a motor vehicle in 2020. That’s about one death every 75 minutes.” There are a number of steps that drivers should take in order to avoid collisions.

  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
  • Drivers should slow down during periods of reduced visibility.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. A large number of pedestrian accidents are due to drivers that are speeding. According to California Vehicle Code 22350, no person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed greater than would be safe or reasonable given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. When a driver fails to slow down and hits a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.

Depending on the facts of any case, the company that a truck driver worked for could face civil liability for a crash. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. For example, a truck driver may have been delivering materials when they were involved in a crash. There are a number of steps that should be taken after a car accident.

  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • A thorough, independent investigation should be conducted.

Accident victims are protected by a number of laws. When a truck driver is negligent and hits a pedestrian, they can be held responsible through a civil claim. The family of any person that is killed in a truck accident can seek some measure of justice through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the expenses that can come with the sudden loss of a loved one.
