Liability For Long Beach Bicycle Accidents

As the United States continued to grow and develop in the 20th century, our cities and communities were almost never designed to be accommodating for pedestrians or cyclists. Consequently, cyclists are often forced to maneuver around roads and neighborhoods which can be very dangerous. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Bicycle trips make up only 1% of all trips in the United States. However, bicyclists account for over 2% of people who die in a crash involving a motor vehicle on our nation’s roads.” Victims of bicycle accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid hitting any bicyclist in the roadway. But far too often drivers are distracted, speeding or failing to maintain a safe distance with the vehicles ahead of them. Any person that is injured due to the negligent actions of another driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A bicycle accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
