Liability For Las Vegas DUI Car Accidents

Driver intoxication remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “About 30% of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drunk drivers (with BACs of .08 g/dL or higher). In 2020, there were 11,654 people killed in these preventable crashes. In fact, on average over the 10-year period from 2011-2020, about 10,500 people died every year in drunk-driving crashes.” There are a number of substances besides alcohol that could potentially impair a driver.

  • Benzodiazepines
  • THC
  • Prescriptions
  • Sleep aides

It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any driver that causes an accident while intoxicated could face criminal and civil liability for their actions. Victims of DUI car accidents may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
