Motorcyclist Injured In San Angelo Car Accident On South Bryant At Avenue L

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS (March 13, 2023) – A motorcyclist was critically injured in a San Angelo car accident by the intersection of South Bryant Boulevard and Avenue L.

San Angelo police officials are saying that the accident took place on Tuesday night. A Ford Transit Connect van collided with a motorcyclist under unclear circumstances.

The van was apparently turning at the time of a collision. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For San Angelo Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists are uniquely vulnerable in car accidents. They lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are more likely to be overlooked. According to the NHTSA, “In 2020 there were 5,579 motorcyclists killed, 14 percent of all traffic fatalities. This is the highest number of motorcyclists killed since FARS started in 1975.” There are many steps that drivers should take in order to avoid hitting motorcyclists.

  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
  • Drivers should be well rested before heading out onto the road.

Left turns are among the most dangerous maneuvers that drivers can make. They are involved in many deadly collisions. Pursuant to Texas Transportation Code § 545.152, the driver of any vehicle intending to turn left in the roadway must first yield the right of way to all traffic traveling from the opposite direction that is close enough so as to pose a hazard. When a driver makes an abrupt left turn in front of another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.

If the driver of a van was working at the time of a collision, the company that they were working for could be held at fault. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. For example, a van driver may have been transporting people when they crashed. Victims of motorcycle accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Organ damage

Any person that is injured in a motorcycle accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Sadly, though, drivers will often fight hard to deny liability for any collision. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
