Motorcyclist Injured In Oxford Car Accident On Route 56

OXFORD, MASSACHUSETTS (October 1, 2022) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in an Oxford car accident on Route 56 not far from Ennis Road.

Worcester County officials are saying that the accident took place around 3:15 p.m. on Sunday. A motorcyclist was traveling down the road when they were involved in a collision near the intersection.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim. The motorcycle rider was taken to the UMass Memorial Medical Center with major injuries.

Police interviewed the driver of the pickup truck who remained at the scene.

Liability In Oxford Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists are uniquely vulnerable in car accidents. They lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are more likely to be overlooked. According to the Insurance Information Institute,  “Operating a motorcycle requires a different combination of physical and mental skills than those used in driving four-wheel vehicles. Motorcyclists and their passengers are more vulnerable to the hazards of weather and road conditions than drivers in closed vehicles.” There are many factors that could contribute to a motorcycle accident.

  • Inclement weather
  • Driver distraction
  • Driver fatigue
  • Poor road conditions

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid causing accidents. Many motorcycle collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous turns. Pursuant to Massachusetts Vehicle Code Section 8, the driver of any vehicle intending to turn left must first yield the right of way to any vehicle traveling from the opposite direction that is close enough so as to pose a hazard. When a driver makes an abrupt turn in front of a motorcyclist, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.

If the driver of a pickup truck was working at the time of a collision, the company that they were working for could be held at fault. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. For example, a pickup truck driver may have been delivering material when they crashed. Victims of motorcycle accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries after any crash.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Many victims of car accidents may not realize the full extent of their injuries for several weeks or months after a collision. Any person that is injured in a car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
