Fire Started by Kids Playing with Matches
A fire that was reported in the Newport Beach/East Back Bay area just before 2:30 p.m. this past Sunday afternoon was said to have started accidentally. According to reports, the blaze was apparently set by two juveniles who were playing with matches. The careless duo’s fire torched roughly 2-5 acres before being contained by firefighters less than an hour later.
The two male juveniles responsible for the blaze left the area shortly before the fire started, but one of them returned to tell authorities that they had accidentally set the fire. The boys were taken into custody and later release to their parents.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, but these scenarios can often times have tragic consequences. Not only could property be irreparably damaged, innocent victims, including the kids, may have been killed.
